About six years ago, I met an amazing woman, Mrs Josephine Nwako, who eventually became my mother in-law.
Today, I am writing this because she has transitioned into glory. She was my gist partner, my defender and an amazing mother. It’s being 6 amazing years of knowing her and I can’t trade that memory for anything in the world.
Mama in her lifetime ensured I had constant supply of original palm oil, okpei (locust beans) , ogiri and other condiments. Her last visit to Ogbete Market in Enugu before she succumbed to illness was mainly to buy these things for me. She was a woman I could always talk to and she would give me very valuable advice.
A mother in-law like no other, she was a woman of valour, full of wisdom and strength. She had a kind heart and was always dashing me money to buy clothes and other things. She took her motherhood duties seriously, and together with her husband, Late Chief Albert Nwako, worked so hard to raise their nine kids. Today, most of them are professionals in different fields including my dearest husband,Okey Nwako . She worked so hard till she became too sick to continue .
Mama, you always told me that you were not in a hurry to die and that you would live to be over a hundred years but God’s ways are not our ways. I was with you, almost throughout your illness . I witnessed your suffering and I watched you emaciate . Many times I was confused and didn’t know what to do or how to ease your pains so I only cried and prayed with you. The experience for me was life changing.
In all these, your faith that God will heal you was unshakeable and sometimes when the pains became unbearable, you prayed to go peacefully. I choose to celebrate despite the pains I feel in my heart because you have gone to a better place, where, neither terminal illness nor pains have power over.
Friends, Join me in celebrating my one in a million mother who Christ liberated from her cancer stricken mortal body on Tuesday, 17/1/2017. Adieu Mama, I will always love , cherish and miss you.
