You Were Pure Light- Luxury Connoisseur and Media Queen, Toke Makinwa, Ode For MultiChoice’s Martin Mabutho

Dear Martin,

It’s taking me so long to write this tribute cos first you’re gone, you won’t get to see this but I am so happy that in your time on this side friend, we connected and you knew how grateful I was, you got to hear me say “Thank You”.

After your celebration of life last night I thought the wealth of our life is truly seen by the number of lives that we touch and I want the world to know how instrumental you’ve been to my growth. I want us all to take a moment and truly realize that it’s not about how long we are on earth for, if we run this race and accomplish what our Heavenly Father called us for, it’s ok to exit this world full. Never empty. It hurts.

We miss you, your family misses you, your friends and work colleagues can all attest to the fact that you were pure light.

Top Multichoice Nigeria executive dies after brief illness

I met you almost 15 years ago, I wasn’t even in the entertainment industry but I had dreams and I shared them with you, you listened, we kept in touch and every time there was a milestone in my life I got a message from you, you pushed, you fought for me, we always pray to have people who defend us in rooms our feet can’t enter, that was you M, you believed in me when no one will take a chance.

My first tinsel Audition, my first audition for studio 53, my first Mnet presenter audition, i did not get these gigs but you always pushed, you’ll send every opportunity my way and when it does not fall through you were deeply hurt, even more hurt than I was but you’ll end every episode with “on to the next”.

You made me a promise last year after another failed attempt, it’s like you knew you won’t be here long. In your words you said “it’ll be a disservice of me to leave MultiChoice without bringing you in Toks”, we must work together, you must join the family.

I’ve never met anyone who believed in me like you did M, You believed my friend, you fought so hard and I am so happy the Big brother platform worked out, it hurts that you didn’t stick around to see it through but I’m in good hands. I promise to work my butt off to make you proud.

Thank you. I thanked you while you were here, I’m thinking you again cos people who bring light to our lives never die.
Good night my friend.
